About Verified Pet Food Data

What We Do

Verified Pet Food Data answers the question pet food marketing is designed to obscure: "What does this food actually contain, what does it actually cost to feed, and has it ever been recalled?"

We chain together three data layers that are usually scattered or hidden behind marketing copy:

  1. Official-label data — guaranteed analysis and calorie content pulled from the actual product label or label PDF, with a source URL for every SKU
  2. Cost normalization — price and bag size matched to a specific SKU, computed down to cost per 1,000 kcal so foods with different bag sizes and calorie density can actually be compared
  3. FDA recall records — sourced directly from the FDA's own recall feed, not a static list built once and forgotten

Why We Built This

Pet food comparison online is dominated by star-rating sites that collapse ingredients, marketing claims, and price into a single undisclosed score. That score can't be checked, and it doesn't tell you what you actually want to know: is this food's guaranteed analysis and calorie content what the label says, and what does it cost per calorie compared to the alternative sitting next to it on the shelf?

We believe that information should be free, structured, sourced, and easy to check — whether you're reading it yourself or an AI assistant is answering your question about dog food.

Who Writes This — and Who Stands Behind It

Verified Pet Food Data is an independently owned and operated publisher, founded by Erin Rose. It is not funded by pet food brands, and no brand pays for placement, a ranking, or a favorable review.

We want to be straight about authorship: Erin is a data engineer, not a veterinarian or animal nutritionist. We do not claim veterinary expertise, and nothing on this site is medical or nutritional advice for your specific pet. Every page is built from primary sources — official pet-food labels and the FDA's recall database — and every number is checkable: the cost database shows its formula, and recall records link straight to the FDA notice. Erin also founded Verified Supplement Data, which applies the same label-sourced, no-ratings approach to dietary supplements, and CareCost Estimate, a healthcare price-transparency tool.

Pet-Nutrition Content Disclaimer

This site provides pet-nutrition information based on official product labels. It is not veterinary advice and does not substitute for a consultation with your veterinarian. Always talk to your vet before changing your dog's or cat's diet — especially for puppies, seniors, or animals with a medical condition.

We do not conduct our own laboratory testing of pet food. Data reflects what's printed on the manufacturer's label.
