Nobody publishes that split because computing it means reading every label.
What it is, and why it is in the food
A popular joint supplement, usually paired with chondroitin. A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis (Barbeau-Grégoire et al.) found a marked non-effect of glucosamine-chondroitin products for osteoarthritis pain and recommended they no longer be relied upon for joint pain management in dogs and cats. It is considered safe, but the evidence of joint benefit is weak.
The evidence is limited. Much of what is written about this ingredient online is extrapolated from other species, other doses, or nothing at all.

What we don’t know
Our figure counts what manufacturers print. An ingredient that arrives inside another component — a preservative already in the fish meal, say — does not have to be declared separately by the pet-food maker, so a count from labels is a floor, not a ceiling. We also cannot see inclusion rate: a label tells you glucosamine is present and roughly where it sits by weight, never how much.
The gap here is dose. Functional additives are studied at specific doses, and a guaranteed analysis rarely states the amount included — so it is usually impossible to tell whether a food contains a researched dose or a marketing sprinkle. We do not translate any of this into a score. There is no honest way to weigh one ingredient against a food’s AAFCO substantiation, its recall history and its cost, and sites that do it anyway are making the weighting up.
